This is an interesting conversion story. It is about Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive and Guess Who fame (those of you that listen to classic rock will recognize these two bands). I saw him tell his story along with his family on the BYU channel--even though I already knew he was a member.
He told the story of how he was one of the founding members of the Guess Who in the late sixties. He was on tour with them when he met one of his old friends in one of the American cities. He bluntly asked her "why are you so happy all the time?" She told him that she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon. Since the meeting did not last long, she did not get much of a chance to explain.
Brother Bachman at this point had a young family he was raising and wanted to spend more time with them. He was also wanting to leave the whole sex and drugs culture of touring behind as he did not enjoy being around it. When he returned home to Winnipeg, he started to read the Book of Mormon. He felt that he and his family needed to join this church. It took him a while, but he was able to contact his friend and ask her more about it. They talked and she put him in touch with the missionaries near his home. They got baptized and he left the Guess Who behind when they were at the peak of their success. He formed the band Bachman Turner Overdrive. This band was very successful over the course of the 70's.
When I left the MTC in Provo to go to the Mission Argentina, Bahia Blanca, I got to my first area one week later in the heart of the Andes Mountains and met my first companion. He was from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He got special permission from our mission president to call his best friend on his birthday, who was serving a mission for the Church in Northern Argentina. I asked my companion who his friend was and he replied "do you know who Randy Bachman is?" "Of course" I replied. He then told me that his friend was Telly Bachman, son of Randy Bachman. He is known to the music world as "Tel" Bachman.

Yes, this is true. I saw part of that show on BYUTV(the cable channel) also.
His son, Tal Bachman, sadly went apostate -- it was a shame to see him be bitter on the PBS show "The Mormons" a few weeks ago. _________________ Bro. Roger L. Brown
