A young woman was waiting for her flight in the lounge of a large airport. As she would be waiting for several hours, she decided to buy a book to read. She also bought a package of cookies.

She settled down into a chair to read her book and eat her cookies. Next to the chair where the package of cookies lay, a man sat down, opened up his magazine, and began reading.

When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also.

She was irritated, but said nothing. But to herself, she thought..."What nerve! If I was in the mood, I would punch him for taking a cookie without asking!"

For each cookie she took, the man also took one.

This was infuriating her, but she did not want to cause a scene.

When only one cookie remained, she thought "Ahhh...what will the arrogant man do now?"

Then the man, taking the last cookie, divided it in half, giving her a half of it.

Well...this was just too much! In a huff, she closed her book, gathered her belongings, and stormed off to the boarding area.
Once aboard, she sat down in her seat, opened her purse for her glasses, and, to her surprise, she saw her package of cookies there!

She felt so ashamed!!! She realized that she had been wrong...she had thought the cookies beside the chair were hers. And yet, there they were, in her purse, unopened; untouched!

The man had shared HIS cookies with her...without anger or bitterness.

She, on the other hand, had been very angry, thinking that she was sharing her cookies with him.

And now there was no chance to explain herself.
No chance to apologize. No chance to say "thank you."

The word...after it is spoken!

The occasion...after the loss!

The time... after it is gone!
